Professor Karen Burland

I am a passionate educator who believes in the value of music for helping people to create healthy lives. I research musical development and participation across the lifespan and I’m currently involved in projects investigating the ways in which musicians create and support their work in music, as well as in the role of music for wellbeing.

I am an active musician and play the clarinet and baritone saxophone in many large and small ensembles. I am Chair of the South Yorkshire Music Hub Board, and a trustee of Harmony Works, an exciting project that will provide a new home for music education in Sheffield.
